Found Bad DirectSound - Error code : 887800A

Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code : 887800A

Solution 1

The way that we were able to fix the problem was by rolling our sound card driver back to the previous version and then we installed the latest driver for the sound card. Here are some detailed steps you can follow:

* Roll the driver back to it's previous version (only tested with Windows XP)
o Right-click on 'My Computer' and choose 'Properties'
o Click the 'Hardware' tab
o Click on 'Device Manager'
o Find 'Sound, video and game controllers' and click the plus sign next to it to expand it
o Find your sound card and double-click it, this will bring up it's Properties
o Click the 'Driver' tab
o Click on the 'Roll Back Driver' button. If there is a driver backed up for your device it will roll
back to that driver, otherwise a message tells you that 'No driver files have been backed up for this device'.

+ If there is not a backed up driver for your sound card you may want to just click the 'Uninstall' button to completely remove the current driver that is giving you problems.
* Install the latest driver from your sound card manufacturer's website
o Find the manufacturers website and look for a drivers/downloads area
o Download the most recent driver available for your sound card
o Follow the instructions from your manufacturer as to how to install the new driver
* Reboot your computer to make sure it loads the new driver
* Try to play your MP3 or other audio file in Winamp

If these steps do not fix your problem then there are some additional steps you can take. Some computers have more than one sound card in them. If this is the case then it is possible that the default sound card has somehow been changed. To make sure windows is using the right sound card go to the 'Control Panel' and double-click the 'Sounds and Audio Devices' entry. Click on the 'Audio' tab and in the Sound playback area make sure the Default device is set to your preferred sound card. You could also try using a different sound card in your system if all else fails.

If you are still having trouble with this error you can press 'Ctrl+P' while in Winamp to bring up the Winamp preferences. Go to the 'Plug-ins' section and click on 'Output'. Trying changing the output from DirectSound output to WaveOut output and then close the preferences and close Winamp. Open Winamp again and see if it works now.

Solution 2

Click on the ‘options’ dropdown menu in Win Amp and there select the ‘preferences’. Here, click ‘output’ , select ‘direct sound output’ and click ‘configure’ button. Under the ‘device’ tab you should select your audio card instead of default ‘primary sound driver’ and it should be alright.
